LEGIC solutions certified for EAL4+

08/11/12

LEGIC Identsystems has received the Common Criteria EAL 4+ security certificate for its card-in-card applet – a virtualised transponder chip for NFC smartphones and credit cards.
Common Criteria is an internationally recognised standard (ISO 15408) that fully assesses a product’s security. The assessment is carried out independently and encompasses product safety during operation and protection during development and production. At LEGIC, the assessment was made by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
LEGIC says: “The EAL4+ certificate complies with an internationally-recognised security level and verifies that structures and processes are appropriate for the development and distribution of products with high security requirements. Additionally, the security of the development environment and protection of the LEGIC card-in-card solution against attacks whilst in operation were tested and certified in line with the relevant high criteria.”
LEGIC’s card-in-card solution consists of a virtualised transponder from the LEGIC advant family. According to LEGIC, the software solution offers all the functionalities of a classic chip-based credential on high-end smartcard controllers. This makes it possible to use the technology on different platforms, such as personal ID cards, credit cards and NFC smartphones.
