SDW 2016 Exhibitor Interview: Evolis

05/05/16

In the lead-up to SDW 2016, Security Document World has taken some time out to discuss industry trends with some of the companies that are exhibiting.

In this interview, SDW spoke with secure ID personalisation specialist Evolis.

What do you feel are the most important identity trends this year?

The rapid growth of electronic identity cards and electronic citizen services has a huge impact on identity management, whether it is during the enrolment, issuance or verification stage. ID card architectures become more and more complex. Therefore governments will be looking for standardized and lasting solutions that are cost-effective for all production cycles of the card, especially the issuance of official documents.

What approach does your company take to security solution development that sets you apart from competitors?

Evolis is specialised in providing decentralized secure card issuance systems that enable a more efficient distribution of electronic identification documents, whenever local infrastructure, budget, or organisational constraints prevent using a more traditional centralized model. Evolis has the industrial flexibility to position its products on high volume projects well as on projects with strong customization requirements such as the for the Tanzanian voter card project which will be presented at the conference. Evolis has a dedicated project team whose mission is to adapt our product to specific requirements (such as encoding capabilities, card input capacity).

What are some of the challenges your company faces in producing secure credential innovation?

The colour personalization of durable polycarbonate documents is still a challenge for the industry, with many different solutions available using proprietary technologies that have their own pros and cons. Evolis has a unique offer on the market combining a dye sublimation card personalisation system with a laser engraving module, offering a decentralized solution for issuing laser protected cards with colour picture.

What areas of development will your company be focusing on in the next five years?

Evolis will continue to propose new personalization techniques for decentralized card issuance, so that governments can choose the model that best suits their needs. While continuing to propose advanced innovations such as our laser personalization system, we are always thinking about offering streamlined solutions meeting essential card issuance needs.
