New editor for Planet Biometrics and Security Document World

Publishing and events company Science Media Partners has named Craig Guthrie as editor of the group’s industry leading publications, Planet Biometrics and Security Document World.

Guthrie, who has served as deputy editor on both titles for the past two years, will be responsible for driving forward readership engagement strategies and accelerating overall visitor and subscriber growth, while cementing the publications’ enviable standing in their respective markets.

As editor, Guthrie will play a key role in the publications’ plans for expansion, including the launch of an identity-focused webinar platform involving high-profile industry experts, suppliers and government end users.

Longstanding editor, Mark Lockie, will serve as publishing director for all the company’s media and events activities, which also include the company’s leading trade shows – SDW 2017 and connect:ID 2017.

“It is a fascinating time to be involved in the secure ID industry and a privilege to be chosen to craft the future development of these leading online publications,” said Guthrie. “We will continue produce engaging and vibrant content built on the sound journalistic principles of impartiality, balance and diligent reporting.”

He added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our industry contributors for the invaluable insights they lend to our publications, and to encourage many more of you to join the debate. Solutions built using secure identity technology – from next generation credentials to advanced biometrics – are playing an increasingly important role across multiple sectors, and the need for quality news, information and insight has never been greater.”

Guthrie is a seasoned journalist who has spent the past decade in senior editorial roles at regional geopolitical publications, including the Asia Times and Middle East Eye.
