The organisers of next-generation identity technology event connect:ID 2017 have revealed that Kevin McAleenan, the Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will the opening keynote speaker at the much-anticipated show.

The Commissioner will address “CBP’s commitment to innovation: Revolutionizing border security through technology,” as connect:ID 2017 launches on May 1 at Walter E Washington Convention Center.

McAleenan has been the Acting Commissioner of CBP since January 2017, and was nominated by President Trump to head the agency at the end of March.  CBP is the largest law enforcement agency and the second largest revenue collecting source in the federal government.

Produced by The International Biometrics + Identity Association and Science Media Partners (SMP), connect:ID 2017 is the preeminent conference and expo for industry, government, and consumers to both see the latest innovations and to discuss the policy and technology issues that shape the concepts of identity.

“Acting Commissioner McAleenan’s address on harnessing technology innovation to enhance border security will be of great interest to the technology leaders and others in the ‘connect:ID’ audience,” said Tovah LaDier, IBIA Managing Director.

Other keynote speakers at the prestigious event include Congressman Michael T. McCaul (TX-10), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, and John P. Wagner, Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations for US Customs and Border Protection.

“We are delighted to welcome three distinguished speakers to the connect:ID 2017 conference line up", wrote the organisers in a previous statement. "Together they will be playing leading roles in helping to legislate for, design, and implement important new systems to enhance and facilitate border management and security in the United States".

The influential speakers join a packed line up of expert presenters at connect:ID, where next-generation identity technologies, solutions, and issues will be presented and debated.
